Mayra Reyes is currently employed with South Texas College. She holds the position of Manager for Counseling Services. Mayra also works as a Clinical Supervisor for the Boys and Girls Club of Pharr Youth and Family Support Services, which she has been fortunate to help establish.  Mayra as well has the pleasure of being employed by Our Lady of the Lake University School of Social Work as an Adjunct Professor. In the past, Mayra has worked as a Clinical Social Worker for Talkspace and worked with Child Protective Cases when working for a community mental health practice. In this capacity, Mayra provided mental health services and interventions to the Spanish Speaking population in person and virtually.

Mayra holds a certification as an instructor for an up-and-coming stress-relieving technique known as Laughter Yoga and has been highly recognized as a Laughter Ambassador by the Laughter Yoga University in Mumbai, India. Mayra introduced Laughter Yoga to the Rio Grande Valley in the year 2012 and has been able to provide the training to several people in the RGV to include certifying over 80 Laughter Yoga instructors and is happily continuing the knowledge and benefits of laughter yoga in peoples daily routines.

Mayra earned the NASW-TX LRGV Social Worker of the Year Award in 2017 due to her significant contributions to the social work profession and the clients it has served. She is currently part of the Steering Committee after serving as a branch chair for 2 years.

Mayra’s devotion to Social Work is a passion to help her community in meeting personal mental health goals. She vows to continue to provide training and workshops as well as supervise future Clinical Social Workers to a high standard. Mayra will always continue to share her knowledge of the importance of self-care and encourage others to take time for their wellness.
